Nikki

Hello, my name is Nikki

I’m a thirteen year old, female Labrador, but don’t worry about my age because there’s plenty of life left in this ol’ girl! I came into the Mayhew after my owner was hospitalised and could no longer look after me. I am now being fostered and enjoying all the home comforts my foster mum provides. I have settled really well and I’m calm in the house. I am very good on lead and just trot along checking out the neighbourhood. We go to the park every day where I potter around happily, although sometimes I don’t hear my foster mum calling me if I am having a good old sniff but I always come back in time. I say hello politely to other dogs but I am no longer interested in chasing around with them. The same with people, while I am very friendly, I am not at all pushy. I would happily live with cats

I am very clean in the house apart from a few puddles on the first night. When I’m not snoozing I enjoy a short, gentle game of ball in the living room and I love being stroked. I will nuzzle my foster mum for a nice soothing head scratch yet I am not one of those pesky dogs who are all over you. I like to sleep in the bedroom on my comfy dog pad but I am very peaceful and don’t try to jump on the bed. Although I like company I can be left on my own for three or four hours without making a fuss therefore I would happily suit someone who worked fulltime providing I’m not left alone for longer than four hours without a break e.g. by hiring a dog walker, pet sitter, or coming home at lunch time etc. I am very good in the car.

I am looking for a loving retirement home with people who want an easy going companion and won’t expect too much of me. I am the ideal dog for a more mature owner or a nice calm household with a settled routine. I would like someone who will give me two gentle thirty minute off lead walks daily in the park or an open space where I can sniff around on my own or simply relax on the grass. I am not bothered about doggy company but I could live with another mature dog if they gave me my own space and introductions went well. I could also live with children of twelve years and upwards. I would prefer not to live with younger kids, though visiting children would be welcomed. I’ve had my legs and hips x-rayed at The Mayhew which showed no problems at all but I do however feel at little stiff in the mornings so need to live in a house or ground floor flat. All I really want is a place to call home where I can appreciate the finer things in life like eating, snoozing and a whole lot of love.

Hope to see you soon
