Pumpkin
Hello, my name is Pumpkin
I’m an eighteen month old female crossbreed. I arrived at The Mayhew after being found abandoned on the streets of London.
Although I am really affectionate and very smart I am the longest stay dog at The Mayhew, which makes me very sad. But I do have some really good news. I am now in a foster home and my foster mum takes me to training classes, which is great because although I know all my basic commands, I really love to learn new things. I’ve only been going for a few weeks and I’ve already graduated to a higher class. I also went to the local dog show and was so well behaved I won first prize in the Best Rescue Dog category! We also go to agility where everyone agrees I am a star pupil! I took to running up and down the A frame and racing through the tunnel like a duck to water. Talking of ducks, I love to sit and watch them in the park when we go for a walk but I only look and never chase them. My other favourite thing is lots and lots of lovely cuddles. Although I was quite needy and vocal in kennels, now I am in a foster home I am much more laid back and relaxed. I am also housetrained and I get on really well with my doggy housemate Bertie, who has taught me so much already. I used to bark at other dogs and strangers when out on my lead but Bertie has shown me there is nothing to worry about and now I can walk up to another dog and say hello nicely. Strangers still worry me and if they force themselves on me I will bark at them to warn them off. I will also bark at visitors to the house I’ve not met before but once I know them they’re warmly welcomed. I used to be really worried at first when my foster mum and dad went out and left me on my own but so long as Bertie is with me and we can both settle down and listen to the TV, they can now leave me for a couple of hours without a fuss.
Although I am a much happier girl, I am still longing for a forever home with understanding people who will allow me time to settle down and adjust to a new routine. I am looking for loving new guardians who are experienced dog owners and will continue to take me to training classes and hopefully enjoy agility as much as I do! I love company so it would be great if they were around most of the time. Ideally I would also like to share my new home with a sociable and confident dog. As I am an energetic girl and need one to two hours off-lead exercise a day in an open space or park, I would do well with an active family and would not mind living with sensible teenagers who are used to dogs. So, if you can find a place for me in your home and your heart, in return I will give you lots of love and keep you fit at the same time. My new guardians will be taking on a twelve year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
Hope to see you soon
