Barney

Hello, my name is Barney

I am a two year old male, large mixed breed. I arrived at The Mayhew when my owners decided they no longer wanted me.

I am a very handsome boy with a soft face and appealing eyes. I'm very affectionate and I love to have my tummy rubbed. I’ve been told I'm a firm favourite with my carers at The Mayhew due to my loving and charming nature. I am now in a foster home and my foster mum and dad say I am amazing company. When we are all together at home I love to snooze at their feet or go and sunbathe in the garden. I am housetrained and can be left alone for a few hours without any problems. Unfortunately in my previous home I learnt to growl and snap to get my own way, however with confident and experienced handlers my carers have found me to be no trouble at all. My foster mum and dad say I am not a demanding dog. I wait for permission to eat my dinner. I know all the usual commands, which I respond well to and my recall is excellent [even if I am chasing a rabbit!], I also greet people I'm introduced to calmly and politely.

I am now looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who will offer me a stable and regular routine, in which I'll thrive. They will need to set me clear guidelines and be firm but fair with me. Any children in my new home will need to be of at least sixteen years of age and upwards. Whilst I am usually very well behaved on walks, I have in the past shown aggression towards strangers and other dogs, for this reason I need to wear a muzzle on my daily hour long off lead walks. My new guardians will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog; they will be taking on a twelve year commitment which must not be taken lightly. In the right home I'll make a fantastic companion with plenty of love and loyalty to offer. My foster dad says to know me is to love me.

I hope to see you soon,

Barney x
