Hello, my name is Derik

I am a 7 year old handsome male German Shepherd. I was found abandoned on the streets and brought to The Mayhew. Although I am seven years old I don’t feel or act my age and everyone says I don’t look my age either. I am an active and fit chap who loves to play and am very skilled in the game of fetch, I also like to greet you with a toy. I am a real gentleman with good manners and although I enjoy my food I take treats very politely and am not at all snatchy. I know my basic commands and I’m housetrained. I'm not keen on other dogs and would prefer to be the only dog in the household. Although I am quite a strong dog, I’m not too strong on the lead and when off-lead in the park my recall is good even if I do like to chase the odd squirrel. Due to my dislike of other dogs I need to wear a muzzle and longline on my daily off lead walks. I adore people of all ages and my most favourite thing is being groomed which is just as well because I have a really thick luxurious coat.

I am looking for a forever home with someone who has owned a dog before and is fully prepared for the hard work and commitment involved in caring for a dog and has researched my breed type. It’s not known how long I can be left on my own for so I’ll need someone who is around for most of the day. I would happily live with children over the age of eight years so long as they were sensible and didn’t pester me. You would also have to promise to give me a minimum of one hour off-lead exercise a day in a park or open space. So, if you love German Shepherds and are either experienced with the breed or are looking for your first Shepherd please come and meet me because I know I could bring you lots of happiness if you will take me into your heart and home.
