Buster

Hello, my name is Buster

I’m a seven year old male Rottweiler. I arrived at The Mayhew after being found abandoned on the streets of London.

I am a very friendly and well-behaved chap. I'm toilet trained, I cope well being left at home on my own, I travel well in the car and on public transport. I walk nicely on my lead without pulling and I know all the usual commands which I respond well to - I'm very eager to please. I am an affectionate boy, one of the most loving dogs you're likely to meet. I love to cuddle up next to you for affection, give kisses if allowed and I always enjoy a good tummy rub. My foster carers say I'm very good with visitors, I greet them politely and then wait quietly until they are ready to give me some attention. I'm a playful boy but not over the top and I'll give up a toy when told to. My favourite game is hide n’ seek - my foster carers throw me one of my toys and then I go and hide behind the sofa until they find me, although if they take too long, I can’t resist popping my head up to see where they are! When playtime is over I go and lie quietly on my bed or sit on the balcony and watch all the boats go by on the river Thames. I've not had much socialisation around other dogs and as a result I'm not quite sure how I should interact with them. I tend to ignore dogs who keep their distance but I can sometimes be grumpy with dogs who approach me. For this reason I will need controlled exercise wearing a muzzle and longline on my daily off lead walks in the park. I really am a lovely boy and I've won the hearts of all of my carers at The Mayhew and my foster carers adore me.

I am now looking for a forever home with an experienced owner, ideally somebody who has owned guarding breeds before and has researched my breed type. I would happily live with someone who works full-time providing I'm not left alone for longer than four hours without a break, either by hiring a dog walker, pet sitter or by coming home to me at lunch time. I can live with sensible teenagers. I'll need to be the only pet in the household. My new owners will be expected to continue my socialisation around other dogs and provide me with a minimum of one hour of controlled off lead exercise every day. If you’re interested in adopting me you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and commitment involved in caring for a dog, which must not be taken lightly.

I hope to see you soon

Buster is currently living in foster care until his new forever home is found. If you are interested in adopting him you will need to visit The Mayhew first before going to see him in his foster home.
