Maisy
Hello, my name is Maisy
I’m a one year old female American Bulldog mix. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owners felt they couldn't cope with me.
I'm a sweet natured and timid girl. I am very friendly and affectionate with people I know but I'm nervous of strangers, however it doesn't take long for me to make friends with people who are introduced to me properly. I get along well with other dogs and I enjoy meeting up with them for a play in the park but I can get over excited with smaller dogs and I have a tendency to chase them. For this reason I need controlled exercise around other dogs and I will need to wear a muzzle and longline in the park. I have a very good recall and I'm currently learning a chase recall to a whistle. I'm an intelligent girl and eager to please so I'm picking this up quickly. I am calm in the house and fully toilet-trained. I also know the basic commands which I respond well to and I travel well in the car. I have been known to be destructive in the past but I can now be left alone for a few hours without any problems. I am a very affectionate girl and I love to give kisses, I also love to cuddle up next to people and I always enjoy a good tummy rub.
I am now looking for a forever home with an confident and experienced owner who has researched my breed type. I would happily live with sensible children from sixteen years of age and upwards and I would also happily share my new home with another medium to large sized dog. I will need a home where there is somebody around for most of the day. My new owners will be expected to continue my training, take me to training classes and provide me with a minimum of one hour of controlled off lead exercise every day. If you’re interested in adopting me you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, you'll be taking on a fourteen year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
I hope to see you soon
