Happily Homed:
Stan

This month we receive a wonderful letter from the new owners of Stan, a dog who has become quite accustomed to travelling!

Dear Mayhew,

Stan admires the sea

We adopted Stan last year and just wanted to let you know he is doing really well. We cannot imagine life without him and he seems really happy living with us. I've attached a few pictures of Stan. He even has his own Stan appreciation society page on Facebook!

We recently got married and although he wasn't best man he came to the service. He wasn't allowed to the reception or we would have had him there too. He is such a good natured gorgeous dog and I find it hard to believe that anyone could have not wanted to keep him. We try and take him most places we go as he still gets a little bit distressed if he thinks we are going away without him, and I suppose he will always be uneasy about being left as I think he always fears we won't come back for him. He is fine in the house but suitcases and boxes and the packing of cars make him on edge. So far he has had holidays in the Lake District, Liverpool and the West country so he is a well travelled dog (although he does throw up in the car occasionally!).

I wondered if you can give any advice on how what we can do to prepare Stan for the arrival of our first baby in the house in October. I am not worried that Stan will be aggressive towards the child but I want to start preparing him for his movement down the pecking order and I wondered if you could give any top tips? I don't want it to be a big change for him all of a sudden as he is so settled. When friends babies come round he seems quite fascinated with them and follows little children around the house!

Thanks and thanks so much for Stan, he has made such a positive difference to our lives and helped make our home an even happier one.
