As reported in the Evening Standard, a passer-by recently brought Boxer crossbreed puppy, Cabbage, into The Mayhew. She had been found in a park; both her ears had been sliced off and she had a deep wound on her tail from an attempted docking. Not only that, but severe malnourishment had left her front legs deformed through lack of bone growth. Here at The Mayhew, safe at last, we set about making Cabbage well again. Our veterinary team operated on her ears and tail to close the wounds. Then her legs were splintered to keep them straight while she continues to grow with the correct nutrition. Her treatment has costover £2500 so far. Cabbage, to her credit, shows no psychological scarring from her ordeal before she came to The Mayhew.
Cabbage is doing well and has had her leg splints removed. Her front legs are still very weak and need strengthening. Hydrotherapy treatment and swimming would be ideal for Cabbage and we are now looking at what options are available for her.
