Job Title: DIY & Maintenance Volunteer

Responsible To

Volunteer Co-ordinator

Main Objectives

• To provide support to our Caretaker during weekdays by assisting with DIY and Maintenance jobs

Main Duties

Communication with the Caretaker

• To carefully follow the instructions given by the Caretaker for the project in question
• Communicate to the Caretaker any problems/issues that come up during the task and seek advice if unsure

Health and Safety

• To follow relevant health and safety aspects for the job in question e.g. wearing goggles, correct footwear, safety gloves etc.
• Keep in mind the safety of animals, staff and members of the public when carrying out any work
• Where possible keep the stress to the animals at a minimum when carrying out work e.g. keeping noise levels to a minimum

Purchasing Equipment and Supplies

• Obtain and keep any relevant receipts when purchasing equipment/supplies for a job so expenses can be processed correctly
• To be as cost effective as possible when purchasing equipment/supplies

To apply for the DIY and Maintenance Volunteer role at The Mayhew Animal Home, you must print and fill in two forms, our main Volunteer Application Form, and a DIY and Maintenance Volunteer Application Form. If you are applying for more than one volunteering vacancy at The Mayhew, you only need to send the main volunteer application form once.

Upon receipt of your application form you will either be invited to The Mayhew Animal Home for an informal interview (usually on a Thursday or Sunday) to discuss your application further, or if your application is unsuccessful you will be sent a letter or email notifying you that we will not be taking your application any further on this occasion. We aim to acknowledge your application within two weeks of receipt.
