Job Title: Driver

Note: You must be 25 years old or above.

Responsible To

Volunteer Co-ordinator or Events Co-ordinator

Main Objectives

• To provide driving support to The Mayhew Animal Home (often at short notice e.g. 24 hours)

Main Duties

Events

• To drive equipment for an event to and/or from the venue (and where possible help the volunteers manning the stall to set-up and/or pack-up)

Pets As Therapy

• To drive Pets As Therapy Volunteer and an animal to a venue and either assist during the visit, or wait in the transportation until the visit is over (usually an hour)

Rescue Runs

• To drive to a designated point with at least one member of staff/volunteer to collect a group of rescue dogs, and return to The Mayhew Animal Home with them

Veterinary Trips/Trips to Battersea

• To transport an animal to a local vets, RSPCA Putney, or Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for medical treatment or re-homing

Trips to Wormwood Scrubs/Dog Away Days

• To drive staff and dogs to a venue for longer walks and either participate in the walk (if suitably trained) or return to the venue at a later time to collect the group

Communication with the Volunteer Co-ordinator

• To notify the Volunteer Co-ordinator immediately if points are added to your Drivers Licence
• To notify the Volunteer Co-ordinator if you are not available to drive at periods of time e.g. due to holiday or sickness

Application Forms

To apply for the Driver role at The Mayhew Animal Home, you must print and fill in two forms, our main Volunteer Application Form, and a Volunteer Driver Application Form. If you are applying for more than one volunteering vacancy at The Mayhew, you only need to send the main volunteer application form once.

Upon receipt of your application form you will either be invited to The Mayhew Animal Home for an informal interview (usually on a Thursday or Sunday) to discuss your application further, or if your application is unsuccessful you will be sent a letter or email notifying you that we will not be taking your application any further on this occasion. We aim to acknowledge your application within two weeks of receipt.
