7th January 2008: A New Year and a New Life for Nowzad and Tali

Nowzad and Tali were safely released from quarantine on 23rd December and went home to enjoy Christmas and their new life with Sgt Farthing and his family. Sgt Farthing recently wrote:

"Nowzad and Tali are doing great – totally different than when I knew them before in Afghanistan. They are enjoying their daily walks and the new smells of our world! Both are not that keen on the beach and I don’t think we will see them splashing around in the sea any time soon! You don’t need to wash in our house now – Tali does that for you... as well as sitting on the dining room table!"

A happy ending and a great start to 2008!

And thank you to all our supporters who made this possible!!

31st October 2007: Sgt Farthing returns from fundraising expedition

Sgt Farthing on Point Nowzad

In September Sgt Farthing set off with a team of personnel from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines to scale the peaks in an unexplored region of the Tien Shan mountain range in Kyrgyzstan. The high point along one of the first ridges they explored was named Point Nowzad!

A big THANK YOU to our sponsors, including Nutrecare, whose donations will go towards helping homeless animals in Afghanistan.

1st August 2007: Nowzad on the BBC!

Sgt Farthing and Selina Scott

The BBC camera crew visited Wey Farm quarantine centre back in June where they shot some beautiful videos of Nowzad and Tali together with the Marines Penny, John and Dave. Then, Sgt Penny Farthing and Mayhew International Projects Officer Joy Lee were interviewed by Selina Scott on Animal Rescue Live.We were a bundle of nerves (Penny said he was less nervous when dodging mortar shells in Afghanistan!) but Nowzad was the real star and we hope his message got through.

A few of the Marines, including Sgt Farthing, accompanied by Joy (The Mayhew ’s International Projects Officer) visited Nowzad and Tali at Wey Farm on 29 June. The dogs were very happy to see the Marines who brought them lots of their favourite military biscuits!
